“Anything you can dream up here, you can create,” says Jack Black in the first trailer for A Minecraft Movie, hitting theaters on April 4, 2025.
He then dramatically declares, “I… am Steve,” causing eye-rolls from the rest of the team, who’ve been transported into the pixelated world of Minecraft.
Directed by Jared Hess, known for Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, A Minecraft Movie features a star-studded cast including Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. Backed by Warner Bros. and Legendary, the film adapts one of the best-selling video games ever, with its 140 million monthly players. The trailer shows Black and Momoa encountering piglins and creepers as they navigate the dynamic game world. Danielle Brooks, discussing the film’s stunts with Variety, said, “I’ve been harnessed a few times for combat scenes and learning moves. I’ve got a weapon, but Jack Black is the real star here, performing amazing stunts with techno-fire in the background.”
With A Minecraft Movie, Black reinforces his reputation as Hollywood’s go-to actor for video game adaptations, following his roles in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Borderlands. Momoa, known for his roles in Aquaman, Dune, and Fast & Furious, also brings star power to the film.
